[LET'S TRY] My Shy Boss/ Introverted Boss Chae Ro Woon Inspired Makeup

My Shy Boss is long over, and I probably should’ve done this much earlier.. but I didn’t realise how long making these take! What I really enjoy about watching Korean Dramas, is too see what is currently trendy in South Korea in terms of fashion and makeup. My Shy Boss was a really cute and comedic drama that has pretty sad twist to it – if you have time, I’d give this one a try. It wasn’t amazing, not the kind that you’d wait week to week for, but still a good light drama to watch during your spare time! The inspired look that I will be doing today is from the main female character of My Shy Boss, Chae Ro Woon. I’m no MUA, so let’s see what I come up with haha.

Before we get started, here is the photo that I referenced while trying to attempt this look:

I’m not trying to look like the character, but rather do a similar look to hers that can pretty much be used in an ‘everyday’ sort of setting?? Frankly, I’m no magician at makeup like PONY and a whole lot of beauty/makeup gurus out there, so I hope you’ll find this useful anyhow :s.

Before we start here are the products that I used to create this look (you don’t need to get the exact same ones, just use what works for you!):

  • KLAIRS Mid-day Blue Sun Lotion
  • NATURE REPUBLIC Snail Solution BB Cream (No.02)
  • SHU UEMURA Hard Formula Eyebrow Pencil (Stone Gray)
  • MAC Eyebrow Pencil (Stud)
  • ETUDE HOUSE Look At My Eyes Cafe (BR404, PK001)
  • BE… BY BUBZBEAUTY PALETTE (Happy and Able)
  • ARITAUM Mono Eyes (No.92 Cozy Touch)
  • THE FACE SHOP Ink Graffiti Brush Pen Liner (02 Ink Brown)
  • ETUDE HOUSE Styling Eye Liner (03 Brown) – forgot to include this in my photo ; n ;
  • COVER GIRL Clump Crusher (Very Black)
  • MAC Powder Blush Matte (Melba)
  • ETUDE HOUSE Rosy Tint Lips (03 Rose Petal)

There are two shades that I used from the Be… by Bubzbeauty palette – Happy and Able:

Whew, okay with that out of the way, let’s try and see how this look goes!

Pardon my incredibly shiny face.. but it’s the glow I tell you, the glow! Always prep your skin before doing makeup, because it helps with making your skin a blank canvas to start with – which I feel makes it easier to apply makeup.

When I apply BB cream, I usually start from my nose and move outward from there. The areas on the outer part of my face don’t get as much coverage as the part in the middle (where all my pores are), and doing this kind of helps highlight my cheeks and forehead (somewhat).

When I filled out my eyebrows, I didn’t have a spoolie handy so I couldn’t blend it as well as I wanted. I mainly had an issue with blending the MAC eyebrow pencil (maybe I’ll make a review for it later)! For the Shu Uemura Hard Formula Eyebrow Pencil (Stone Grey), I usually just blend it out with finger – I find that this pencil is really easy to blend, which makes it great when using it to fill out my brows for a natural everyday look. Realised that I also need to trim/groom my eyebrows.. heh.. ; u ;

If you want to use a primer before applying a base colour to your eyes, go ahead – it’ll make the colour last much longer. The base colour can be anything beige, and easy to blend in with your skin tone. I first applied the ETUDE HOUSE Look At My Eyes Cafe (PK001), but I realised that the colour was too subtle, so I used the Happy shade from the Be… By Bubzbeauty palette instead. I applied the base colour, because most of the colour will be at the bottom of the eye lid, so I wanted to use this to help with contouring my eyes a bit before I apply colour.

I focused on adding the eye shadow to the inner and outer corners of my eyes as well as where the arrows are pointing to in the picture above. Without it, my eyes looked really flat (or at least that’s how I feel haha).

In the reference photo above, you’ll notice that they used a shimmer coral colour around her eyes. I actually don’t have any coral shimmer shadows at all, so before I was able to take photos for this and try to attempt this look, I went around looking for THE coral eye shadow (which is leans more towards an red-orange colour). They have a heavier and more pigmented application, whereas I was trying to get a more natural look out of it :)

Since I didn’t have a shimmer coral shadow, I added the closest copper shade I could find onto the coral colour. It helped give it a more pink orangey look I think! Again, I could’ve packed on more shadow and made it look more intense, but I wanted it to look subtle.

Straight line eye liner application is the norm in Korean/Asian beauty trends. I wonder if it’s because of the way our eyes are shaped? I only started the eye liner from halfway, because I noticed that in KDrama makeup, that that’s what they did too! I think it gives it a more ‘natural’ effect because the eye liner would look like it’s gradual? Does that make sense? lol ; u ;

After I tightlined my eyes, I took a cotton swab (Q-tip), and blended it out so it doesn’t look super dark. I only tightlined the outer and inner corners of the bottom waterline, and the inner corner of the top waterline.

Sometimes actresses will wear false lashes, but in this case they only used mascara (and a lot at that!). I have trouble with finding a mascara that doesn’t smudge, so I don’t tend to put on as much (by habit) compared to the reference photo above.

Try to find a blush that is light pink! I didn’t have one that was light pink, so I had to go with the one I had which was more orangey than the one they used. For the lips, I just used the ETUDE HOUSE Rosy Tint Lips (03 Rose Petal). I applied it from the inner parts of my lips and then smudged it outwards. It doesn’t look as gradient as the one the photo (but you can see a little bit of gradient). I’m wondering if I should’ve used a different lip stick ha. Alternatively, you could also apply foundation/bb cushion on the outer parts of your lips before applying the lip stick because it does help create that gradient effect!

The Finished Look

AKA me trying to do as many expressions that the character does in the drama, but failing really hard to do so. I ultimately wanted this to be wearable during the day. Since I’m not a heavy makeup person and I usually go for a more subtle look, I think this turned out not too bad!

Anyways! That’s the end of this time’s ‘Let’s Try..’, let me know what you think of the look! I’m no makeup artist, so I think for what I did with the little knowledge and skill that I have is not too shabby haha. Have you watched My Shy Boss? Did you enjoy the drama?

Thank you for reading!
