[REVIEW] NATURE REPUBLIC Super Aqua Max Combination Watery Cream

Happy new year! This is my first post of 2019, after becoming basically inactive for the past couple months (which I’m not proud of). Work, school and all other things got in the way, but that didn’t mean that I couldn’t have kept up with my reviews. That being said, I’m slowly getting back into it. This year, I’m trying to post more on a regular basis and created a schedule for myself to make sure that I get this done. Anyhow, in this post I will be reviewing Nature Republic’s Super Aqua Combination Watery Cream. I got this in a Bomibox from a while back, and opened it early last year! I’ve been trying to get myself to finish up products before opening up new ones, so I have been using this for the past 1.5 months.

Disclaimer: I am not a beauty guru nor expert, and all sorts that fall under that category. This product was purchased with my own money and I am not being paid to write this. My review, photos, impressions and thoughts are all my own, unless stated otherwise. While this product may or may not have worked for my skin, it may or may not work for yours – remember, your mileage may vary (YMMV)!

  • Strong sweet floral scent (very strong and may not work well for those with sensitive skin)

Will I buy this again?

I’m on the fence with this one. It’s a nice moisturizer, but I don’t think I would pay as high as $30 for this (which is a bummer, because it’s hard to find this below $30 if I have to factor in the shipping fee as well).

Claims/Description

The box states that this product helps protect skin from the external environment by forming a film of moisture over the skin. It is also claiming to retain moisture in skin for longer periods of time.

Packaging

The packaging feels expensive. It’s a heavy jar of glass which makes me feel like that’s one of the reasons why the price is so high. Not a fan of glass packaging (it gives it too much vulnerability to shatter!), but it’s nice to be able to reuse this later on for something else.

List from Nature Republic USA

Here is a CosDNA analysis on the product. I’ve highlighted ingredients that it notes that may be a potential irritant to skin or cause a breakout. One thing to note is that this product contains a large amount of plant extracts – make sure that you are not allergic to certain plants (seaweed, etc) if you are planning on trying this out! I would also watch out if your skin doesn’t work well with silicons, since there is quite a few of them in the list too!

Texture

The texture of this product is similar to a creamy gel. It looks like sherbet (green and cloudy).

When you spread it out, it turns into a thicker gel.

Application

When I spread the moisturizer, it definitely felt thicker, heavier compared to ones that I normally use (gel). It takes a while for it to set and finish. It made my skin light and smooth, and my skin didn’t feel clogged or heavy – which means that even though it looks creamy, it’s not creamy at all! It’s actually got quite a gel texture (not sure if you can tell from the photo).

One note I will make, I did find this slightly harder to spread compared to the COSRX Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion (with Birch Sap). It didn’t bother me too much, but there were instances when I felt like I need to apply a bit more than I usually do with my moisturizers simply because it didn’t spread.

In terms of application, I apply it to my face, spread it, and leave it to wait for it to set. Alternatively, you could pat in this protect gently! Unfortunately, I’m not willing to spread the wealth of this moisturizer to the palm of my heads.

Effectiveness

Aside from the strong scent following me everywhere throughout my day, it did keep my skin feeling hydrated. It is light enough to be used in the summer, but not quite there for cold winter days. Sometimes I feel like I need to double up on another moisturizer, or I use my sunscreen to make sure my skin doesn’t feel dry (winter weather can be pretty harsh on the skin here!).

I used the Susee Spa tool to measure the oil and water content on my skin (specifically my cheek – my cheek is an area where it is typically the most dry around my entire face). Here are the before and after results:

Before

This measurement was made right after I washed my skin, applied toner and serum.

Susee Before.jpeg

Even with serum, my skin is in the “dry” category, which goes to show, that one should never skip out on moisturizer.

After

Susee After.jpeg

After, my water content went up by roughly 3.5% and the oil content went up by 2%. It shows that the oil content is balanced, however, my skin could still use a lot more moisture (especially in the cheek area, since that is the dry part of my face).

My skin felt refreshed after applying this, there is a bit a cooling-effect that goes on with this! Those always get me, because I love feeling that cool refreshing feeling whether it is to start or finish my day. However, I do think the price is a bit expensive (if you were to purchase it in store vs online), but it is definitely somewhat affordable compared to a lot of other well-known brands out there.
