[REVIEW] LANEIGE Two Tone Lip Bar

Hello Laneige fans! Song Hye Kyo/Lee Sung Kyung fans! The Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar is super popular in Asia right now, because for the past couple years everyone has been trying to achieve that “bitten” lip look. There are so many tutorials out there that teach you to blend concealer with a red/coral lipstick, but now you don’t have to do so many steps! Laneige has solved the problem for us! Well they solved it ages ago, but I only got my grubby little hands on these products recently so.. :)

Disclaimer: This product was purchased with my own money and I am not being paid to write this. My review, images, impressions and thoughts are all my own, unless stated otherwise. While this product may or may not have worked for my skin, it may or may not work for yours – remember, your mileage may vary (YMMV)!

Ingredients

Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Squalane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polyethylene, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Silica, Microcrystalline Wax, Mica, Polyglyceryl-2 Diisostearate, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Disteardimonium Hectorite, VP/Hexadecene Copolymer, Diisostearyl Malate, Methicone, Fragrance

I looked a couple different reviews online myself before purchasing this lip bar, because I wasn’t sure how it would look on me. In the end, I just went to the store in Hong Kong and got the associate to try on the lip bar on my lips! It’s really nice going into these stores because they sanitise everything and moisturise your lips before applying the lip bar. I ended up buying 4 shades – No.4 Milk Blurring, No.10 Burgundy Love, No.11 Juicy Pop, No. 12 Maxi Red.

No.10 – 12 shades are the recently released shades and No.4 is one of their most popular shades out there.

The lip bar is half sheer, half matte. When you apply it on your lips, you usually apply the matte side on the outside and the sheer part on the inside. The box gives you a really good idea of the colour that you will be getting. (Sorry Milk Blurring is upside-down ><) I would say that No.4 and No.12 are a lot lighter than what the box makes it out to be, but its still a nice colour nonetheless.

what-i-bought

Here is a closer look at the packaging of the lip bars. It makes you feel like these products are definitely worth $30CAD, or even being worth on the more expensive side. The bottom of the tube is the colour of the sheer, or the colour that will appear on the area where you would usually bite your lips. I’m so in love with the packaging eep! It’s just so pretty ; u ;

the-product

The product is 2g, but it can last you for quite a while. I found the part where you push down to get more product a little weird – not bad weird, just wasn’t used to pushing the button down to get more product. The button is also set by increments – each step down is how much of the lip bar you would want out when applying it.

how-much-product-you-get

I usually push it down two steps, because I just find it a lot easier to use that way, but the associate recommended to only go down one step each one. Totally up to what you prefer! ¯(◉‿◉)/¯

Fragrance

The ingredients contain fragrance, but it isn’t strong at all – I can barely smell it.

Swatches

It was really easy to swatch on, but I think my skin is a bit too dark for the matte sides of No.11 and No.4 to show. It’s also good that the yellow and white colour isn’t to obvious, and makes it easier to blend out too! When you look at No.11 you would think it would make your lips look super yellow, because that’s how they show the colour on the site, but it actually looks a lot more natural than I thought! Well played Laneige.

swatches

The most exciting part was swatching them on my lips. Although, I realised that when you swatch on lipsticks – it’s so damaging to your lips so if you ever do a review, or are testing on different lip bars remember to moisturise. I will be using the Lip Sleeping Mask tonight to repair the damage that I done to them lips.

on-the-lips

No. 11 Juicy Pop doesn’t look that scary right? I think the more surprising and opaque shades were No.10 and No.12. The lighter pink matte shades were more obvious on the lips compared to No.4 and No.11. But they also blend quite nicely on the lips. I especially like No.10 because its a great shade to use for work. It’s not too neon of a pink, and it’s darker so it gives you a more mature look. No.12 is a nice shade for going out with friends, or at night, it’s more on the pinky side and I would use it less often for work. No.4 and No.11 are perfect for an everyday look, whether its for work or just hanging out with friends.

If you find that you have a line that doesn’t blend well between the two colours, you can use a Qtip or your finger and blend it out. Bl-bl-bl-blend it out!

Something I found was that these tint your lips, as it starts to wear off. Which is nice in a way because you would still have some colour even though it won’t look as shiny anymore. It’s super transferable – which is okay, they never said that it would be long lasting anyways. I honestly prefer lipsticks that way, because it will be easier to remove later if it’s transferable vs. matte lippies which are just a pain to remove. (; ̄Д ̄)

In Summary

This product is on the more pricey side, if you compare it to Sephora or MAC where their lipsticks are less than $25 CAD. But you do get two colours in this lip bar and it’s already precut diagonally so you can easily create the ombre/bitten lip look without using multiple different products. It’s perfect for lazy people like me! I love that you don’t have to layer the coat multiple times, it’s really pigmented. The diagonal cut is a nice touch because you can touch up the messy parts really easily! If you are looking for an easy way to create the ombre look, and you don’t mind paying a bit more for a lip bar, then I recommend going for these!
